Woodside, California, in San Mateo county, is 3 miles S of Redwood City, California and 20 miles W of San Jose, California.

Woodside was initially inhabited by Ohlone Native Americans. The area was first explored by the Spanish. Woodside is also the oldest English-speaking settlement on the southern San Francisco Peninsula. In 1849, Mathias Alfred Parkhurst purchased around 127 acres of timberland and named it Woodside. The town was incorporated in 1956. Woodside is currently one of the wealthiest communities in the world.

Local parks include the Ardenwood Regional Preserve, the Big Basin Redwooods State Park, Butano State Park and Castle Rock State Park, to name a few. The Bean Hollow State Beach on the San Mateo Coast offers opportunities for fishing and beachcombing. The Ardenwood Historic Farm is nearby as well. Built in 19th century, this historic farm includes a mansion and Victorian gardens.
